Hans Cousto

Cosmic Octave · The Nature of Things

Hans Cousto has been exploring the connections between music, mathematics, the laws of nature, and cosmic orders for decades and is one of the best-known proponents of the theory of the Cosmic Octave.

01 — Biografie

Hans Cousto, born in 1948 in French-speaking Switzerland, traveled for many years as a young hippie through the regions between the Mediterranean and the Hindu Kush, immersing himself deeply in the cultures and philosophies of the East. These experiences sparked his interest in the hidden harmonies and laws of the universe and led him to explore the connections between the macrocosm and the microcosm.

He gained particular recognition for his work on the “Cosmic Octave,” in which he explores the relationships between vibration, sound, time cycles, and natural orders. He has published several books on this topic and collaborated with numerous musicians and sound artists, including Steve Schroyder, Jens Zygar, Akasha Project, B. Ashra, Rainer von Vielen, and Steffen Günther.

At the Dao Dance Festival, Hans Cousto will give a talk on numbers, music, and the limits and possibilities of human knowledge—on the things we can know and those that elude our understanding.
